Geng Le is a LGBT NGO leader, human rights activist and Chinese pink economy pioneer. As the founder of the NGO “Danlan”, which aims to provide news and a dating service to Chinese LGBT’s, Geng Le witnessed Chinese deep-rooted discrimination and rapidly changing attitudes towards LBBT issues. Danlan’s website, which was set up in 1999, has been continuously harassed, attacked and even temporarily shut down by local government. In 2012, owing to his enormous influence and great contribution to AIDS prevention, Geng Le was invited to meet with Li Keqiang, the current Chinese premier. Geng Le is also a pioneer of the Chinese pink economy. He launched the Chinese first gay app “Blued”, available for smartphones users, which now has over 2 million active accounts. Danlan is currently a partner of the Helan Online, the Chinese-language website of the RNW.
